Coral Churchill: Painting

Biography

I studied Painting at Central Saint Martins and have exhibited work in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London Art Fair and No Soul For Sale at Tate Modern. My painting is influenced by the curiosities and phenomena of this world. In my work I wish to draw attention to the ethereal elements of life. I am working on a series of portraits of indigenous people referencing early daguerrotypes and images of the Huli warriors of Papua New Guinea. The gesture of the brush mark and its ability to express and convey meaning and emotion is important to me. I use colour chromatically, in the gradation of light on a face or feathers.
